Antenatal Exercise Classes are a tried and tested method of improving strength and flexibility around the pelvis, back and hips. Thereby allowing women experiencing low back, pelvic and hip pain to manage their symptoms.
There are a number of other classes held throughout Cardiff which are designed for pregnant women. The UHB and Cardiff Council have joined forces to offer a range of antenatal classes in various leisure centres. For some women during pregnancy the abdominal muscles develop a gap as their baby grows and develops. This gap is given many names, but anatomically it is the Diastasis (meaning gap) Rectus Abdominis Muscle, abbreviated to DRAM. It is important to know how to measure this gap and what advice and exercises to follow in order to help reduce it. You’re Midwife may refer you into a Physiotherapy Triage appointment in order for a Physiotherapist to assess your abdominal muscles and teach you exercises to help maintain strength until your baby arrives.
