A carer can be anyone, of any age, who provides unpaid care and support to a relative, friend or neighbour who is disabled, physically or mentally ill, or affected by substance misuse. Unpaid carers are the single largest provider of care to people with support needs in our communities. Caring for people is often stressful and may affect mental wellbeing, if you are struggling to cope our Emotional and Practical Support for Unpaid Carers may be able to help.
If you are an unpaid carer, support is available from a range of sources, including health and social services, third sector organisations, education and training providers, and employers. Many carers find it easier to continue in their caring role if they can get some help, you may be entitled to support by getting an assessment.
If you would like to access general help and advice for carers in Wales, please view the Carers Wales website. For information about being a carer during the COVID-19 pandemic, read the guidance for unpaid carers published by Welsh Government.
