What does Cardiff and Vale offer?

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board’s Specialist Parkinson’s Team have also produced the My Parkinson’s App, which is an interactive web-based resource to empower and equip people living with Parkinson’s and their families with the information and tools to help manage the condition. Currently the services supporting people with Parkinson’s are adapting and changing, but we are still here.

There are two separate multi-disciplinary teams for people with Parkinson’s and you will be managed by the team best positioned to support you. 

  • The Parkinson’s Specialist Service provide multi-disciplinary support for patients under the Directorate of Clinical Gerontology (Consultants Dr Biju Mohamed and Dr Chris Thomas).  
  • You can contact your PD Nurse Specialists (Tracy Williams, Sandra Mahon and Lois Gallivan) or our Parkinson’s Coordinator Sandra Sexton for support when you need it. Telephone hotline 02921 824342.  For more information, follow this link: Parkinson’s specialist service or myparkinsons.org.uk
  • Therapy services, such as physiotherapy, are currently accessed via the PD Clinic or Elderly Care Assessment Unit (ECAS). Day Hospital has reopened but has reduced capacity due to COVID-19 and social distancing. 
  • Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Service can help if you notice changes to your speech and swallowing. You can be referred by your GP or Specialist nurse/doctor or you can contact us directly via tel: 02920743012 /E-mail: cav.sltoutpatients@wales.nhs.uk
  • For patients managed in the Department of Neurology (Consultant Dr Kathryn Peall)
