The Children’s Physiotherapy Therapy Service works with families, education staff and other health professionals to support children’s physical development and functional activity.
We work with children aged from birth through to the end of their full-time education whose physical and gross motor skills development impact on their lives. We aim to provide practical advice and support to empower people within the child’s support network to develop their physical and gross motor skills. We are here to support families when they need us and our involvement with families will depend on their individual needs.
Children are seen by physiotherapists for a wide variety of clinical conditions this can be the result of trauma, an injury, post-surgery, normal variations in development and childhood disability. Children are seen by Physiotherapists in a variety of settings including the Children’s Hospital For Wales, Children’s Centre’s, Special Schools, Nurseries, Schools and at Home.
We may need to conduct a physical observation and examination. This may include looking at the child’s strength and co-ordination, motor development, posture, balance, respiratory needs, function and abilities.
Individual advice would then be tailored for you and your child to follow.
The Children’s Physiotherapy Service can offer you advice and support to help you support your child’s physical development/movement and function.
