The Hand Therapy Service is run by specialist Occupational Therapists and a Physiotherapist, working alongside the four Consultant Hand Surgeons. We have two therapy sites, based at Cardiff Royal Infirmary and University Hospital Llandough
Our Hand Therapy team consists of therapists who have undergone postgraduate training, including the British Association of Hand Therapists’ accredited courses, and specialise in the assessment and treatment of hand conditions and injuries. Some of our therapists are also trained in advanced clinical practice skills such as injection therapy.
Our role is to provide specialist assessment, treatment and education, fabricate splints, and rehabilitate our patients through surgery / injury, to return to work and leisure and the activities of daily living.
The therapy team work alongside surgeons, planning and implementing post-operative care in order to maximise patients’ recovery following surgery. Patients are often discharged early from Consultant clinics into the care of the therapist who will then direct their ongoing treatment.
Should you require a formal assessment, please make an appointment with your GP in order to be referred to our team.
