Rheumatology and the foot
Over 900,000 people in Wales live with a form of arthritis or back pain.
Rheumatology or Arthritis affects joints and muscles. Each foot takes up to six times of the bodyweight with every step and it is important to protect vulnerable foot joints.
Rheumatology conditions which can impact the foot include:
- Osteoarthritis
- Rheumatoid Arthritis,
- Psoriatic Arthritis,
- Axial Spondylarthritis
- Gout and
- Systemic Sclerosis.
A Podiatrist can help to minimise the impact of a Rheumatological condition on the feet, with joint protection, footwear and footcare advice, supportive orthoses (insoles) and working with the wider Rheumatology team to improve health and wellbeing.
During a Podiatry appointment we will be able to discuss what is important to you about your feet and we can work with you to improve foot health and function.
When you attend your Podiatry appointment, please bring footwear you wear most regularly, which should include enclosed fastened shoes.
